Artist Statement

Hi! My name is Maxwell Sagermann-Niimura, & I’m a SBHS class of 2020 graduate who is going to UCLA next year to major in fine arts. I’m half Japanese, & growing up I was very eager to immerse myself in many facets of the culture. However after my mom passed away I had difficulty finding connection to that side of my heritage, & often felt alienated. Through art I was able to reclaim & explore my cultural identity through creation.
